As we all know that the New Year is approaching and each one of us will be planning new goals and targets to achieve in the upcoming year. Someone who has failed or not able to do something good will always be willing to take a fresh start in the New Year. As this year(2020) has been through a lot of ups and downs because of the pandemic, people would make a lot of new year resolutions and achieve them. Before diving into topics of the resolution, let us take a brief study about how the concept of New Year Resolution started.

Although the term “ New Year Resolution” was first mentioned in a newspaper in the year 1813, its origin is far older than 4000 years. In ancient times, the Babylonians are said to be the first people on earth to make New Year Resolutions as a religious practice on the arrival of New Year. They used to celebrate the New Year for 12 long days. Various resolutions and oaths that the people used to take were like returning debts, pay off for any objects they had bought, and other several types of promises to God. A similar practice was prevalent in Rome as well. The Roman Emperor Julius Caesar established a new calendar with January as the first month of the year. In the medieval era, the knights used to take vows at the end of the Christmas Season.

Although in olden times, New Year Resolution started with making promises to the almighty but in the modern era, everyone makes resolutions not to impress anyone but for self-development. With the motivation of a New Year arriving and helping you towards success, it’s high time to set some goals, adhere to them, and make them a reality. Here is a list of New Year resolutions that one should make.

  • HELPING OTHERS


Helping other people voluntarily has always been a noble deed. It not only makes the needy ones happy but the helping person himself or herself feels satisfied and contended from inside. Scientific researches have proved that giving something back to the community helps in improving health and also positivity is developed in body, mind, and spirit. Helping out others creates a sense of responsibility and also brings in new friendships in the community. It also increases self-esteem. Helping others not only limits to helping human beings. Domestic animals such as dogs, cats that remain stranded on roads can be taken care of. Always be kind to the needy ones.

  • SPENDING TIME WITH FAMILY


In the rush of daily life, people often forget to spend some time with their family members. Although amidst the coronavirus pandemic almost everybody got a chance to spend a good amount of quality time with their near and dear ones. This has always been among the top of the list of New Year Resolutions. After a tiring day at work, everyone wants to spend some good time with his or her family. This helps in maintaining a good emotional balance and maintain positivity within a soul.

  • FOLLOWING NEW HOBBIES

    Every one of us has some hobbies be it dancing, cooking, music, etc but due to some unavoidable reasons, we cannot follow them. This new year, everyone should commit to themselves that they will try to take out some time out of their busy schedule and follow their hobbies. This will help to boost up the mood of an individual which has a direct impact on the health of the human being. Many people make resolutions to take a break from work and go for adventurous things like traveling, hiking, skiing, etc. All these hobbies are nothing but stress busters.

    • SELF DEVELOPMENT

      Personality development is one such trait that every individual must stick to prosper at a healthier rate in life. Many self-improvement activities such a meditation, exercise, skill up-gradation must be done by every individual to become a better version of yourself every single day. Quitting bad habits such as smoking cigarettes, having excessive alcohol is also a stepping stone towards self-improvement. Although, the road to a better human being is very tough, if a person promises himself or herself at the beginning of a year, and follows the necessary activities he or she can notice a huge difference in the personality. A person should commit to daily exercise, a healthy diet, update himself/herself regularly with the fast-moving world, have enough sleep, and perform his/her daily duties. All these activities will ensure the proper development of both body and mind. Reading good books is also another way to self-development.
